I am not using font Book application and am unsure how fonts are managed without font book or other font management software installed. I haven't read anything which explains things fully.

I have scoured the forums a bit to see if I can find a resolution. Obviously its a font issue and the fonts that should be displayed are maybe not being found to be rendered as they are.

Resolving the fonts to question marks in Safari and Mail issue Since upgrading to Sierra, on my merry way through upgrading my mac to get as up to date as I can, I have found that Safari and Mail are showing loads of question marks instead of words. Delete the ones causing the problem.Īs you can guess, this can take at least hours, if not days to sort through 3000 fonts. Turn those off and activate smaller groups of that 20 until you've narrowed it down to the culprit(s). If things go bad, at least one font of the last group activated is bad. You activate about 20 at a time and see what happens. If after that the issue continues, then you need to try and weed out the bad ones. You can start by replacing your library with known good, fresh copies. Any bad fonts that are active then once again damage the cache and you're right back where you were. Clearing the cache temporarily solves the issue. Somewhere in that group of 1454 active fonts are ones that are conflicting with other fonts, or are damaged. No third party fonts added to the Library or System folders.īut yes, third party fonts are any you've installed that are not included with the OS. I haven't tallied them up in quite a while, so I'll assume 2 and 3 are only the fonts installed by the OS. But it's just unbearably slow for me right now.Okay.

If RightFont could fix the performance issues, I'd easily upgrade this to a four-star review. It constantly either says "no fonts to display" or fails to alter the screen when you make changes, leaving you to think nothing has happened or will happen when it has and it will. (Weirdly, it seems like this is specifically limited to the library view when in "all fonts" view it goes faster, which is counterintuitive, but ultimately unhelpful, since the whole point is filtering.)Īlso, the UI is pretty questionable there's no loading state indicating that the app is working in the background, which is bad for an app that does as much work in the background as this one does. It's literally faster for me to navigate through the fonts in Finder than it is to go through my library in this app. In any case, I have a large font library, and literally every action-from scrolling to right clicking-takes several seconds, brings up the rainbow spinner, and sends my modern PC's fans into overdrive. I suspect it may have switched to Electron under the hood and that's what's causing the problem, but that's just a hunch. RightFont *used* to work great a version or two ago.
